- Khoya (250 grams)
- Sugar (1/2 cup)
- Broken wheat or Dalia (2 tbsp.)
- Milk (1 cup)
- Fresh cream (1/2 cup)
- Pure Desi Ghee (1 tbsp.)
- Cocoa (2 tbsp.)
- Cashew nuts and almonds (1/2 cup, finely chopped)
- Cardamom powder (1/2 tsp.)
- Pistachio (for garnish)
The preparation of the makhadi halwa will take around 30 to 40 minutes. To begin with, first you will melt ghee and add Dalia at medium heat. You will need to fry the dalia till its color changes to golden brown. Then add milk in the mixture and allow it to cook on low heat till the mixture softens. In the dalia mixture, you will now add cream, khoya, and sugar and then cook it for another 20 minutes. In the initial process, the mixture will loosen, but after some time it will begin the process of thickening. Add cocoa powder, the finely chopped dry fruits, and cardamom powder. Mix these ingredients and continue the process of cooking till the mixture starts to leave the pan and takes the form of a dough. Now, dish out the dhoda on a greased plate and sprinkle pistachio on the top. Cut the dhoda and you can cut it in the desired shape either in diamond or square just as you like.
